Eat (and drink) the 80s & the 90s

Eat (and drink) the 80s & the 90s

We are saying “Yes Please” to this new place in hip The Fort, which is like it’s cut for the Gen X. From 80s and the 90s inspired decor to great cocktails named after the era’s icons, the newest concept bar by celebrity vlogger Erwan Heussaff will definitely, as Queen’s song goes, “rock you!”

Maverick cocktail, also tagged as the Perfect Wingman

Celebrity food vlogger Erwan Heussaff’s newest concept bar, Yes Please in hip Uptown Bonifacio in The Fort, is putting a playful spin on retro fun, specifically on all things 80s and 90s.

Yes Please celebrates the things we love about that decade. It’s alive with neon lights, pastel-colored murals, and sofas upholstered in a mishmash of velvet and floral.

Hike Mt Tapyas for that perfect sunset

On top of the world…errr…Mt. Tapyas

A grueling 734-step climb and you’re on top of Mt Tapyas.

“Mt Tapyas is ideal for sunset spotting. The sea is also calmest at this time, adding a bit of drama to the view. And once the natural light fades, the harbor lights start to bathe the town’s baywalk and this is best viewed from the peak,” says Al.

But the sunset is not the only crowd-drawer of Mt Tapyas. Stand at its peak and admire the 360-degree sight of the whole Coron town and Mt Dalara, the highest mountain in the Calamian. Also seen from the horizon is Coron Island shaped like a sleeping giant. The Tagbanwa believe that the sleeping giant is Dumarakul, an ancient hero said to have protected them from the onslaught of Moro invaders. The giant cross erected at the peak is a pilgrimage site during Holy Week.

Local curates Batanes

Local curates Batanes

Get to know Ivatan rockstar tour guide Ed Delfin, his aspirations for his hometown, and his favorite restaurants list

Ed enjoying scenic Fundacion Pacita. By Opal Bala

I started tour guiding visitors in Batanes in 1999. I was working on a World Bank-funded project on environmental protection and conservation at that time.

Im more of a cultural worker than a tour guide. I’ve always been an advocate of heritage conservation. My goal is to convert as many locals into becoming heritage champions and instill in them that tour guiding is about showing the dynamics of natural environment and cultural heritage that shaped our province into what it is now today.

Hail to the best pizza place in Siargao

It will be a shame to visit Siargao and skip Kermit, the island stop for wonderful cocktail concoctions, the best pizza in town and perfect tropical resto-bar setting.

Kermit’s hands on owner Gianni Grifoni with his little one at Kermit

Kermit in General Luna, Siargao, is a lively resto-bar where it seems everyone around knows everybody. But it’s not for this reason alone that you should go. The open deck you walk onto barefoot fitted with loungy seats and sunken chairs is prolly the most relaxed spot I’ve been to recently. While the area is exclusive to guests staying at Kermit and the affable owner Gianni Grifoni’s personal guests, there is a rustic tropical space next to it where you can grab a seat to eat or drink or both.
